The Assassin’s Blade written by Sarah J. Maas is a epic fantasy prequel constructed of five novellas. In the Assassin’s Guild we see Celaena’s roots. We follow her on five assassin related adventures all throughout Adarlan. In this novel you will explore and learn so much about the characters and world of the Throne of Glass series. Maas will take you through all the feels. Personally, this book is one of my favorites in series. The first factor that puts it so high up is the plot(s). Then the emotions. Third is the characters. And finally is the writing. All of this combined makes a stunning read.
The Assassin’s Blade actually contains five novellas following the one and only, Celaena Sardothien. Each novella is a part of her life when she was in the Assassin’s Guild and was building her reputation as the most feared assassin. All of the plots gave you a wondrous insight on the world Maas has created. And every plot was so interesting and captivating. I also loved how a lot of the plot(s) affected the plot/plots in future novels. I personally think Sarah J. Maas always does good when it comes to plots. They’re always creative and bewitching. “The Assassin and the Desert” always stands out to me but I think “The Assassin and the Healer” is my favorite.
This book took me through an emotional rollercoaster. Throughout the books we all know about Sam. It doesn’t matter where you start- whether it’s with this book or Throne of Glass, everyone knows about Sam. Even when I knew it was coming, I balled my heart out when he was killed. Also, I finally turned Sydnie (the other admin) to this series and she also balled about Sam. This book will take you though it.
I had all ready loved Celaena but this novel added the cherry on top. The dynamic between her and every other character was stunning. Plus, getting to see the “old” Celaena was cool, when reading later novels you see how she grew as a person. And just getting to see her roots was great. And then we had Sam. He was an amazing character with good layers to him and his personality. Also him and Celaena chemistry together was always a treat.
Sarah J. Maas is a wonderful writer. She is able to portray the world of Adarlan so vividly. The setting and characters you can easily imagine without any hardship. Each and every character is different and well developed. The emotion is raw and perfectly portrayed. And her figurative language is always spot on. Overall Sarah J. Maas is an excellent writer.
I absolutely adore the Throne of Glass series and this book is one of the best in the series. The plot, writing, and everything combined makes such a beauty of a novel. I would 100% recommend to anyone- no matter your place in the series!
