Furyborn written by Claire Legrand is a complex fantasy novel about two girls whose fates intertwine a thousand years apart. Let's jump right into my initial thoughts of this novel- amazing. Everything was just there, the writing, complex plot and characters, and the emotional appeal too! While this novel was really good the only thing that I wasn't so wowed about was the romance scenes but we'll get into that later. Overall, in this review I will be going over the plot and characters, and of course writing. The emotional part of this book (like romance) I will also address.
Long story short- the plot was breathtaking! It wasn't like every other fantasy book off of the shelf. Plus it was so much more along with intricate and just plain great! Along with just the right balance of action and information, it had layers and was faster paced. Now when I say "information" I don't mean like a textbook. I mean when the characters just take a break and you learn about their world and such. Everything worked nicely together and there was good flow from chapter to chapter.
To put it simply- the writing made me happy. The world and characters were clear as day and same goes for the action scenes. Personally, action scenes are really hard for me to write without if feeling cheesy, and I feel like the same goes for other writers. Claire Legrand did this effortlessly. To summarize, the writing was clear, concise, and elegant.
Oh my goodness I fell for the characters hard. The characters were three-dimensional, had great chemistry, and were written great. All of them were so unique and lovable. I also really enjoyed how throughout the novel you saw the characters grow in more ways then one. They matured emotionally, and since this is a fantasy book, you saw them grow magically as well which was interesting to me. In addition all of the characters were creative. All of their characteristics, physically as well, were so different- and in a good way. All in all these characters were a breath of fresh air.
Overall this book was just simply captivating. I highly recommend it if you love fantasy and just enjoy reading in general. Everything worked so well together and came together to create this magical read!
