Some books just leave you longing for more for days, months, even years. They just have some quality about them that you can’t help but fall in love with. Whether it’s the characters, the plot, or sometimes the sheer entertainment of the book keeps you hooked. Whatever it is, I am about to share my three top book and/or series choices.
Throne of Glass Series- The Throne of Glass Series written by Sarah J. Maas takes the gold. It has been my favorite series ever since I started it during the summer going into seventh grade. The characters, world, and plot leave me utterly obsessed. Let’s start with the basics- why do I love this series so much?
The overall reason I enjoy this series so much, is it’s different and there are layers to it. I say it’s different because of honestly just about everything. The characters are more complex, and their qualities are different than any characters I’ve read. Take the main character, Celaena for example. She’s cocky and arrogant and has a somewhat extreme side of her. Most books don’t show all the flaws that she has. And certainly not to the extreme that Maas does.
I’ve even read reviews where people state that they didn’t like the series just for the fact that the main character is so flawed and negative, and they found Celaena annoying in spite of it all. On the other hand, I find it as she is product of her past. After everything she has faced, she is entitled to act this way. Plus, as I mentioned before, it gives the book a refreshing quality. Every character is meticulously thought out with layer after layer onto them.
Next is the world. The world also somewhat has layers, for you get the image of exactly what it looks like, and also through more complex things like politics. Plus, I’m a sucker for fictional worlds. Finally, is plot. The plot and the action and everything in between just suck me in. There’s just the right dose of everything you need in a good book.
One Of Us Is Lying- One Of Us Is Lying written by Karen M. McManus is one of the newer favorites. I got it during the Christmas of eighth grade, and spent just about the whole break reading it. It was my first novel that I actually enjoyed out of the fantasy and science fiction genre, ever since then I’ve been diving deeper into new YA genres.
Now, there are only a few major reasons why I liked this book so much. Since it takes place in a more realistic standpoint, there won’t be quite as much as in the Throne of Glass section. In this novel, I also really enjoyed the characters. In One Of Us Is Lying, the characters are more relatable than Throne of Glass, but still have those compex layers to them.
You see how each one is affected by their environments, but also see that quality about them that make them so relatable, but also makes you fall for them. The plot was also just so captivating that it kept me begging for more, and the constant suspense kept me hooked. This novel certainly took the silver medal.
Zenith- Zenith was written by both Lindsay Cummings and Sasha Alsberg, but the novel does not seem as if it was written with two different styles, but it flows perfectly as if one single writer.
The characters are amazing. They’re strong people with all sorts of different backgrounds, with all sorts of issues and personalities. The world (or galaxies) are masterpieces, beautifully painted and all so exotic in their own ways.
And the plot, oh the plot. The plot was utterly captivating and constantly kept me wanting more. Around every corner there was a twist, and something else to be looking forward to.
All in all, these are my ultimate top three favorite books/series hands down.
